create-motherbase-app generates a frontend wired to Motherbase and
@motherbase/ui. It supports Next.js App Router and React with Vite.
Create an app
npx create-motherbase-app my-app --template next
# or
npx create-motherbase-app my-app --template reactThe command installs dependencies by default. Use --no-install for an offline scaffold
or --yes to accept the default name and Next.js template. It refuses to overwrite an
existing directory.
After creation:
cd my-app
cp .env.example .env.local
# Set the Motherbase URL and publishable key in .env.local
npm run devIncluded flows
Both templates include sign in, sign up, password reset, an OAuth callback, profile editing,
passkeys and MFA settings. Configure the visible OAuth providers, passkeys and MFA settings
in src/config/auth.ts after enabling those methods in Motherbase. MFA is enforced by the
backend and appears automatically during sign-in when required.
The generated code is application code: customize or remove its pages and styles as your product grows.
Template differences
| Template | Stack | Session and routing |
|---|---|---|
next | Next.js App Router | @motherbase/ssr, Node.js Proxy, and server-side user verification for /app |
react | Vite + React Router | Client-side navigation guard; backend authorization still protects every request |
Node.js 22.12 or newer is required by the generated templates.
